Bike Revolution
In the most unexpected moments, we often discover passions that become central to our lives. For Bahdan, a regular activity like biking turned into a profound love and a source of innovation—all sparked by the challenges of adapting during COVID-19.
When the pandemic struck in 2020, Bahdan, living in Prague, chose the freedom of biking over the restrictions of crowded public transport. Working for Wolt and Amazon at the time, he cycled through the city daily, navigating its bike lanes and uncovering opportunities for improvement. What began as a necessity quickly evolved into a passion, inspiring him to explore biking networks and urban planning through the lens of data.
This newfound interest led Bahdan to pursue a master’s thesis on urban green infrastructure in 2021. Using GIS and spatial analysis, he explored deep into how data could enhance city biking networks, sparking a career trajectory that brought him to Yungo. Here, his expertise aligns seamlessly with the company’s mission of innovation and smarter solutions.
Biking, for Bahdan, is more than just transportation—it’s a way of life. When his bike broke down and repair shops were overwhelmed, he stumbled upon Prague’s "Bike Kitchen," a volunteer-run workshop where cyclists gather to repair their bikes. This community quickly became a significant part of his life. Not only did he fix his own bike, but he also began helping others, forming connections with fellow cyclists and fostering a sense of camaraderie. Today, the Bike Kitchen remains one of his favorite summer spots.
A true biking enthusiast, Bahdan documents every ride with GPS, creating personalized heat maps of Prague’s biking routes. While others might rely on paid apps like Strava, he’s crafted his maps for free, charting nearly every corner of the city. These maps tell the story of a cyclist who has explored Prague’s streets, forests, and beyond.
But his passion doesn’t stop at the city limits. Bahdan is a fan of bike-packing adventures, including a four-day ride from Brno to Prague. He’s also a dedicated participant in the nationwide “Bike to Work” campaign, promoting cycling culture and sustainability. Each October, he goes as a volunteer to the forest camp near Hradec Králové, where he helps repair rental bikes in exchange for food, accommodation, and the opportunity to spend time away from Prague.
Bahdan’s journey from necessity to passion exemplifies Yungo’s core values of innovation, passion and agility fostering a strong sense of community. Whether improving bike infrastructure through spatial analysis or exploring Prague’s neighborhoods on two wheels, Bahdan inspires us all to adapt, innovate, and embrace the unexpected.
